Wednesday Morning

Last night I gave my presentation to the Board of Directors, and it went better than expected.  I am the newest (and youngest?) Committee member, and so I felt unqualified and perhaps also a bit shy.  But once I had the floor, my confidence “automagically” (as my friend Matt would say – thanks for the vote of assurance, by the way :D ) kicked in and I delivered my outline without a hitch!  The feedback I received was good too.  Whew,  I’m so glad that’s done.  The knots that wrenched themselves in my stomach all weekend have slowly loosened in the last 12 hours.

Now that all of that is over, I can move on to other things, like making final preparations for my best friend’s bridal shower in 2 weeks.  Planning it all has been a lot of fun – we should really surprise her :) .  I’ve also decided (for sure, this time) that I’m not taking any classes this summer.  I have a tendency to just “go, go, go!”, and instead I want to have time off.  I also have a lot of gatherings this summer with family and friends, and I really want to enjoy being with them, not be huddled over my laptop watching the crowd with one eye and the program on my screen with the other.

A long-time friend of mine from Buffalo (I’m talkin’ from way back in the day) called last night to say her job is transferring her to Colorado this summer!  Yeah!  I’ve really missed living near my old friends and I’m looking forward to it already.

Is it really almost June already???

Well, I slept in this morning, so it’s about time I head off to work now.

Remembrance

In remembering our loved ones who’ve died while serving, we honor them. In recognizing the ones who remain in the fight, we are hopeful for their safe return.

To Uncle Sid, Uncle Rich, Kazim, Tony, Lindsay, Vicki, Rigel, Aaron, Calvin, Precious, and David….Happy Memorial Day

On Being Sleep Greedy – Part II

Addendum: So, after writing this entry on Saturday, it turned out that I was coming down with the stomach flu…icky.  I should’ve known, since sleeping for long hours like that is my body’s usual first line of defense when fighting a bug.  By Wednesday night I was terribly ill and left work early, even.  The previous week’s stress didn’t help much either, I’m sure.

I just slept for 13 uninterrupted hours.

This week has been demanding, time wise. I’ve been working longer hours at work, and I had to put my car in the shop – which means getting up extra early in the morning only to arrive extra-late at home in the evenings because I’m riding the bus. In addition to that, I’m preparing a short presentation to the Board of the non-profit I volunteer at, as a statement of my committee’s position on a pressing issue right now. That has meant even later nights due to meetings and planning with a bit of “Dear God, I have to speak in front of important people!” stress added.

On Monday night, I had a couple glasses of my favorite wine when I got home from work, then grabbed my bike and binoculars after dark to go stargazing. That always puts me in a better mood. By Wednesday, however, my energy level had dissolved quite a bit again. Lucky for me, I had dinner plans that night with a good friend who always puts me in a cheerful mood! Thursday turned out to be a late night, due to a meeting, and by Friday morning I knew I’d be keeping it low-key this weekend. I told a friend who asked about my holiday plans that “I only plan to keep to myself”.

But this is a holiday weekend, which means it’s all about being in a crowd. A dear friend invited me to her birthday party some time ago (the party was last night), and despite really wanting to go, I had to call and tell her I wasn’t coming. I would’ve been an unbearable grump, and nobody likes that! I needed to just go home and get much needed sleep, which she completely understood. I’m feeling much better now, although still a bit low-key, so I’ll just have to be extra careful to go with what feels good and say no the rest.

So, what does one do after sleeping for 13 hours? Make buttermilk pancakes for breakfast, of course! Happy Holidays :D

Chasing Adventures is Exhausting Work.

A friend of mine and I went in search of mountain adventures last weekend, and boy, did we have to work hard to get to them. But once we did, it was awesome!

While escaping the “city life”, we managed to hit 5 towns in 2 days (a few more photos chronicling our travels can be found here). And, after we’d had our fill of chasing rainbows, dipping our feet in the lake, and shaking the dust from our hair, we still managed to get stuck in stand-still traffic for over an hour on the way home.

Ah, the smell of civilization. Now I’m ready for a nap.

Mania!

The Obnoxious Boxes have returned…sigh.  I always hate this part.

And so, moving on…

Bird song

I was awakened this morning by a most-spirited bird song outside my bedroom window; there were two swallows, and if I didn’t know better I’d think they were having an argument! It made me think of “The Littlest Birds” by The Be Good Tanyas, which I’ve added to my Songspot play list. Happy Saturday!
